Boron Nitride CAS 10043-11-5

Boron Nitride (CAS 10043-11-5) from UATChem is supplied mainly as hexagonal h-BN, a white, soapy platelet powder often called white graphite. Hexagonal boron nitride conducts heat while staying electrically insulating, lubricates at high temperature and resists chemicals, so it serves as a filler for thermal interface materials, a high-temperature solid lubricant and release aid, and a smooth-feel additive in cosmetics. Grades run from 99 to 99.9% with D50 from submicron to about 30 µm, and cubic c-BN is available for abrasive use. Packs range from 1 kg foil bags to 25 kg drums and 500 kg FIBC lots; tell us the application and particle size for a quote with COA and SDS.

What Boron Nitride Is

Boron nitride is a ceramic compound of boron and nitrogen sold in two working forms. Most industrial powder is hexagonal h-BN, a soft white platelet material with a graphite-like layered structure that gives a slippery, soapy feel, high thermal conductivity together with electrical insulation, and stability in air to around 900 to 1000 °C. Cubic c-BN, by contrast, is one of the hardest abrasives made and is used for grinding and cutting hardened steel. UATChem supplies h-BN powder from 99 to 99.9% across a range of D50 sizes and platelet shapes, with cosmetic, thermal and lubricating grades, and can provide c-BN for abrasive applications. The powder is chemically inert, insoluble in water and acids, and non-hazardous.

Thermal, Lubricating and Cosmetic Uses

  • Thermal management. A thermally conductive but electrically insulating filler for thermal interface materials such as greases, pads and gels, and for PA, PE and other engineering plastics used in LED, power supply, battery and 5G heat dissipation.
  • Lubrication and release. A high-temperature dry lubricant and release aid for metalworking, metallurgy, glass forming and injection or die casting, and an additive that gives self-lubricating properties to plastics and ceramics.
  • Cosmetics. Fine, high-purity powder adds a smooth silky feel, soft focus and even spread to color cosmetics and pressed powders, as a white alternative to talc or mica feel agents.
  • Abrasives and ceramics. Cubic c-BN goes into grinding wheels and cutting tools for hardened steel, while h-BN is pressed into high-temperature crucibles, nozzles and insulating heat-sink ceramic parts.

Typical Specifications

The table is a general guide; thermal, lubricating and cosmetic grades differ in D50, platelet shape and B₂O₃ or oxygen content, and exact specifications are confirmed per order.

Parameter Typical Value
Crystal Form Hexagonal (h-BN) platelets; c-BN on request
Appearance White, free-flowing soapy powder
Purity 99.0 to 99.9%
Particle Size (D50) Submicron to ~30 µm
BET Surface Area From ~2 m²/g (coarse) upward for fine grades

Packaging, Documents and Ordering

  • Packed in 1 kg foil bags for samples and cosmetic or trial lots, 25 kg woven bags or fiber drums and 500 kg FIBC bags for volume; keep fine and high-purity powder dry, sealed and free from contamination, and the product ships as non-hazardous cargo by sea or air.
  • Every lot carries a COA showing purity, D50, BET surface area, B₂O₃ or oxygen content and whiteness, together with TDS and SDS; compliance documents for cosmetic grades can be discussed at inquiry, and samples are supported.
  • For thermal pads and greases the powder is commonly dispersed in Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) CAS 63148-62-9 as the base matrix. For a quote, send the application (thermal, lubricating, cosmetic or abrasive), crystal form, D50, purity, quantity, packing and destination port.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between h-BN and c-BN boron nitride?

A: h-BN is a soft white powder for thermal, lubricating and cosmetic work; c-BN is a super-hard abrasive for hardened steel.

Q: Why use boron nitride instead of graphite for heat transfer?

A: Both conduct heat, but h-BN stays insulating and white, fitting electronics where conductive black graphite cannot be used.

Q: What particle size and packing do you offer for boron nitride?

A: h-BN runs from submicron to about 30 um D50 at 99 to 99.9% purity, packed in 1 kg foil bags, 25 kg drums or 500 kg FIBC lots.
