Titanium Dioxide CAS 13463-67-7
Titanium Dioxide (CAS 13463-67-7), TiO₂, is the white pigment with the highest hiding power, used in coatings, plastics, paper, inks, rubber and cosmetics. UATChem supplies rutile grades for outdoor, weather-resistant paint and plastic parts and anatase grades for paper, enamel and indoor use, made by sulfate or chloride process and surface treated with alumina, silica or organic agents to improve dispersion and durability, in versions matched to waterborne or solventborne systems. Standard packs are 25 kg bags and 500 kg FIBC lots; tell us the application, crystal form and process for a quote with COA and SDS.

What Titanium Dioxide Is
Titanium dioxide is an inorganic white pigment whose high refractive index gives strong hiding power, brightness and UV resistance, and it is sold as a fine white powder in two crystal forms. Rutile is denser and more weather resistant, so it leads in outdoor architectural, industrial and marine coatings and in plastic parts that must keep color outdoors. Anatase is softer and cooler in tone and is preferred for paper, enamel, ceramics, indoor formulations and cosmetic or pharmaceutical white color. Material is made by the sulfate or chloride process, and most pigment grades carry an alumina, silica or organic surface treatment that controls dispersion in water or solvent systems. UATChem supplies treated and untreated rutile and anatase lots matched to each binder and processing route.
Coatings, Plastics, Paper and More
- Coatings and inks. The white and light-tint color base for architectural, industrial, automotive and marine paints and printing inks, setting opacity, gloss and weather resistance, with chloride-process rutile used for premium outdoor work.
- Plastics and masterbatch. Whitens and opacifies PVC, polyolefins, engineering plastics, masterbatch and film while resisting light and yellowing during processing and service.
- Paper and enamel. Brightens and opacifies paper coating and filler stocks and is used in enamel and ceramic glazes, where anatase grades are common.
- Rubber, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Tints white rubber and elastomers, serves as a physical UV filter in sun care often combined with zinc oxide, and provides white color in tablet coatings and capsules at the proper compliance grade.
Typical Specifications
Pigment TiO₂ is specified by hiding power, tinting strength, oil absorption and dispersion rather than a single purity number; datasheet and COA values are provided for the exact grade, and other surface treatments are available on request.
| Parameter | Typical Value |
|---|---|
| Crystal Form | Rutile (R) or anatase (A) |
| Process | Sulfate or chloride |
| Surface Treatment | Al₂O₃ / SiO₂ / ZrO₂ / organic, or untreated |
| ISO 591 Class | R2 / A grades as applicable |
| Appearance | White powder |
Packaging, Documents and Ordering
- Packed in 25 kg paper bags with moisture-proof liner and in 500 kg FIBC bags; keep material dry, sealed and free from contamination, and the product ships as ordinary, non-hazardous cargo by sea or air.
- The fine inhalable powder is handled with dust masks, ventilation and avoidance of dust, and the SDS carries the dust hazard labeling required in the destination market. Every lot ships with a COA covering TiO₂ content, rutile content, whiteness, tinting strength, oil absorption and dispersion, together with TDS and SDS; cosmetic or pharmaceutical grade documents can be discussed at inquiry.
- In sun care the powder is often combined with Zinc Oxide CAS 1314-13-2 to broaden UV coverage. For a quote, send the application, crystal form, process, surface treatment (water or solvent), quantity, packing and destination port.
FAQ
Q: Rutile or anatase titanium dioxide, which should I choose?
A: Rutile gives better hiding and weather resistance outdoors; anatase suits paper, enamel and indoor coatings or plastics.
Q: What surface treatment do your titanium dioxide grades use?
A: Pigment grades carry alumina, silica or organic coating for dispersion; untreated lots are available on request.
Q: How is titanium dioxide packed and is dust a concern?
A: It ships in 25 kg bags and 500 kg FIBC lots as non-hazardous cargo; use dust masks and ventilation, SDS included.
