Curcumin CAS 458-37-7
Curcumin is the orange-yellow polyphenol behind the color of turmeric, extracted from the dried root of Curcuma longa and standardized for the three curcuminoids that carry the coloring and antioxidant activity. Most trade moves as the 95 curcuminoids extract used in capsules and tablets, and the same substance is the approved natural food color listed as E100. The standard powder is fat soluble with almost no solubility in water, so clear drinks call for a water-dispersible form. UATChem offers food-grade curcumin as the standard 95 extract and in water-dispersible blends, packed against light and moisture, with HPLC assay and contaminant results on every COA.

About Curcumin
Curcumin is the lead curcuminoid in turmeric, the bright yellow spice ground from the root of Curcuma longa. Extraction and crystallization turn that root into an orange-yellow powder built from three related curcuminoids, curcumin, demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin, and the trade standard grades these together by HPLC as the 95 curcuminoids extract. The same molecule is approved as a natural food color under E100 and listed as Natural Yellow 3. It is fat soluble rather than water soluble, runs yellow in acid and neutral conditions and shifts toward reddish brown in alkali, and it fades under strong light, so packaging and formulation both allow for that.
Forms UATChem Supplies
- Standard 95 curcuminoids extract. The workhorse HPLC-standardized powder for capsules, tablets and powder blends, with the three curcuminoids reported together on the COA.
- Food grade natural color (E100). A yellow to orange colorant for confectionery, bakery, sauces, pickles and beverages, selected for shade and mesh rather than supplement dosing.
- Water-dispersible curcumin. A formulated grade that disperses cleanly in clear and ready-to-drink beverages, where the plain extract would settle or cloud.
Where It Is Used
In dietary supplements the 95 extract is the standard ingredient for capsules, tablets and stick packs sold for antioxidant, joint and general wellness support. Plain curcumin is fat soluble and absorbed poorly when taken alone, so finished brands pair it with lipids, piperine or micronized carriers at their own formulation stage.
As a food color, E100 gives mustard and pickles the familiar yellow and turns orange at higher use across confectionery, snacks, bakery, soups and drinks. The shade follows pH, bright yellow in acid and red-brown in alkali, and the same profile suits color cosmetics with an antioxidant story. It often sits beside other natural ingredients in clean-label ranges, and UATChem also supplies cinnamaldehyde for natural flavor work.

- Packing. 1 kg and 5 kg foil bags, or 25 kg fiber drums with a polyethylene liner; private labeling can be arranged for regular orders.
- Storage. Keep sealed, cool and dry, away from direct light, heat and iron contact, as these dull the shade.
- Quality file. Each lot ships with HPLC assay plus heavy metal, solvent residue and microbial results on the COA and food grade documents.
- Handling and shipping. A non-hazardous botanical powder under normal transport rules; keep dust down and away from ignition sources.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is curcumin the same as turmeric powder?
A: No. Turmeric is the ground spice root; curcumin is the purified 95 curcuminoids extract for consistent color and dosing.
Q: Does it dissolve in water for beverages?
A: The standard grade is fat soluble; for clear drinks use water-dispersible curcumin, and use plain powder in oils and ethanol.
Q: What packing and documents come with food grade lots?
A: Lots ship in 1 kg or 5 kg foil bags and 25 kg fiber drums, with HPLC assay, heavy metal and microbial results on the COA.
