Aluminum Chlorohydrate (ACH) CAS 12042-91-0
Aluminum Chlorohydrate (ACH, CAS 12042-91-0) is a pre-hydrolyzed polymeric aluminum coagulant that starts flocculating the moment it is dosed — unlike aluminum sulfate, which must first hydrolyze in the raw water. It gives denser, faster-settling flocs with lower residual aluminum, and works across pH 5.5–9.0 without pH correction in most surface and ground waters. UATChem manufactures liquid grade (10.0–12.0% Al2O3) and solid grade (40.0–42.0% Al2O3), in 200 kg PE drums, 1000 L IBC, 25 kg bags and 500 kg jumbo bags, with COA, TDS and SDS on every order.

About Aluminum Chlorohydrate (ACH)
ACH is made by controlled partial neutralization of aluminum chloride, which builds pre-polymerized aluminum hydroxide chains before the product ever reaches the treatment tank. Aluminum sulfate has to hydrolyze in the raw water first; ACH arrives with its polymer structure already formed. Those chains adsorb onto suspended solids and natural organic matter, neutralize surface charge and bridge particles into dense flocs that settle fast. The practical result: a shorter floc-formation window, less sludge, a lower dose and less residual aluminum in finished water than alum at the same treatment target. ACH is part of our water-treatment line alongside Nitrilotriacetic Acid CAS 139-13-9 and Cyanuric Acid CAS 108-80-5.
Applications
- Drinking water purification. Primary coagulant for surface and groundwater, handling turbidity and color removal, TOC reduction ahead of filtration, with finished-water aluminum held low enough to meet potable standards.
- Municipal wastewater. Chemically enhanced primary treatment and phosphorus precipitation in secondary trains, where its dense flocs reduce clarifier load and sludge volume.
- Industrial effluent. Treatment of textile, food, metal-finishing and chemical plant streams, including oil-water emulsions and high-color discharges where alum underperforms.
- Papermaking. Retention and drainage aid and sizing component in wet-end chemistry, giving cleaner white water and more stable ash retention.
- Personal care actives. The same pre-neutralized chemistry is the aluminum source in antiperspirant formulations, supplied here in cosmetic-compatible purity on request.
Liquid and Solid Grades
Both grades are the same chemistry at different concentration. Liquid ACH is ready to dose with no dissolving or aging tanks, and suits plants dosing continuously. Solid ACH cuts freight and storage space and is the economical choice for large or occasional batch demand. State whether your dosing point is continuous or batch; the right form usually follows from that.
| Parameter | Liquid Grade | Solid Grade |
|---|---|---|
| Al2O3 Content | 10.0 – 12.0% | 40.0 – 42.0% |
| Basicity | 65.0 – 75.0% | 65.0 – 75.0% |
| pH (1% Aqueous Solution) | 3.5 – 5.0 | 3.5 – 5.0 |
| Water Insoluble Matter | 0.05% max | 0.1% max |
| Lead (as Pb) | 10 ppm max | 10 ppm max |
| Arsenic (as As) | 2 ppm max | 2 ppm max |
| Cadmium (as Cd) | 1 ppm max | 1 ppm max |
Storage, Handling and Safety Notes
- Store liquid ACH in acid-resistant PE drums or IBC totes in a cool, covered warehouse, away from strong bases and oxidizing agents; keep containers sealed to prevent evaporation and surface crystallization.
- Solid grade absorbs moisture. Reseal bags after sampling and keep pallets off damp floors.
- Wear splash goggles, acid-resistant gloves and protective clothing during bulk transfer; the material is acidic and irritates skin and eyes on prolonged contact.
- Shelf life 12 months (liquid) and 24 months (solid) under proper storage. COA, TDS and SDS with every order; samples available; quotes within one working day. State the form (liquid or solid) and quantity in your RFQ.
FAQ
Q: What is the difference between liquid and solid ACH?
A: Same chemistry, different concentration. Liquid is 10-12% Al2O3, solid 40-42%.
Q: What pH range does ACH work in?
A: It flocculates reliably across pH 5.5-9.0 without extra pH adjustment chemicals.
Q: Does ACH leave residual aluminum in water?
A: Residual aluminum stays lower than with alum at the same dose in finished water.
Q: What packaging is available?
A: Liquid in 200 kg drums or 1000 L IBC; solid in 25 kg bags or 500 kg jumbo.
Q: What is the shelf life?
A: 12 months for liquid, 24 months for solid, in sealed original containers.
