Rubber Accelerator MBTS (DM) CAS 120-78-5
Rubber Accelerator MBTS (DM) is a long-established thiazole accelerator for sulfur-cured rubber, supplied as a pale yellow, free-flowing powder with a faint characteristic odour. It gives rubber compounds a comfortable safety margin before cure sets in, so uncured stock can be extruded, calendered or molded without setting too early, and the finished parts cure evenly and age well. The grade disperses readily, does not stain and is a common choice for white and light-coloured goods. UATChem supplies MBTS in 25 kg bags and 500 kg bulk bags for tire, hose, belt, footwear and molded-goods makers; tell us the rubber type and cure system and we will confirm the right grade, with COA, TDS and SDS on every lot.

About Rubber Accelerator MBTS
MBTS is a medium-speed thiazole accelerator, one of the workhorse additives used to make sulfur-cured rubber set into a strong, springy product during hot molding or curing. It is valued more for safe, steady processing than for raw speed: uncured rubber keeps a usable working window on the extruder, calender and mold, then cures on a fairly flat curve so parts come out consistent and resist aging in service. The powder is easy to disperse, carries little colour and does not stain, which keeps white, cream and pastel articles clean. It fits everyday natural and synthetic rubber goods rather than food-contact items, where a slight bitter taste rules it out.
Applications
MBTS is added across a broad range of rubber goods:
- Tires, tubes and tread. Natural rubber, SBR and BR compounds for tire treads, sidewalls, inner tubes and cycle tires, where safe processing and an even cure support consistent production.
- Hoses, belts and seals. Reinforced hoses, conveyor and drive belts, seals and gaskets, including oil-resistant nitrile parts that need steady cure and good aging.
- Footwear and molded goods. Soles, slippers, mats, rollers and general press-molded articles, including white and light-coloured products thanks to the non-staining powder.
- Butyl and chloroprene work. In some butyl and chloroprene recipes the same material serves as a mild retarder or processing aid rather than a fast accelerator.
Specifications
MBTS is used with sulfur and the usual zinc oxide and stearic acid activation system, alone or together with faster secondary accelerators when a shorter cycle is needed. The powder feeds and disperses cleanly on standard mixing lines, and both loose powder and low-dust granulated or pre-dispersed forms can be supplied to suit the line. Lots are released with appearance, initial melting point, heating loss and sieve residue reported on the COA, so incoming inspection can be checked against a clear sheet.

Packaging and Storage
MBTS leaves as a dry powder in 25 kg woven or paper-plastic composite bags with an inner liner, or in 500 kg bulk bags for high-volume lines:
- Keep bags sealed in a cool, dry, ventilated store, away from direct sun and moisture.
- Avoid raising dust during weighing and transfer; wear standard dust protection and follow the SDS.
- COA, TDS and SDS accompany each shipment, with palletizing and export marking arranged on request.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is MBTS supplied as powder or granules?
A: Standard supply is a pale yellow, free-flowing powder. Granulated or pre-dispersed masterbatch forms are available.
Q: Can it be used in white or light-coloured rubber?
A: Yes. It disperses easily and is non-staining, so it suits white, light and brightly coloured rubber goods.
Q: Which rubbers and products is it used for?
A: It suits NR, SBR, BR and NBR tires, hoses, belts and molded goods, and acts as a retarder in butyl and chloroprene work.
