Lead Distearate CAS 1072-35-1
Lead distearate, also called lead stearate (CAS 1072-35-1), is the neutral lead salt of stearic acid, a white heavy powder. In PVC it lubricates the melt against hot equipment and gives auxiliary heat stabilization alongside other stabilizers, not as a complete stabilizer alone. It goes into opaque rigid PVC profiles, fittings, cable and molded goods where lead additives are allowed. UATChem supplies industrial grade material in 25 kg woven bags and 500 kg bulk bags. It is a toxic lead compound, so confirm destination restrictions before ordering; COA and SDS are provided.

What Lead Distearate Is
Lead distearate is the neutral lead salt of stearic acid (C₃₆H₇₀O₄Pb), a white heavy powder insoluble in water. In PVC it lubricates the hot melt and adds auxiliary heat stabilization as one part of a blended stabilizer system, not as a stand alone stabilizer. UATChem supplies industrial grade powder, with lead content and fineness reported on the COA.
PVC Stabilizer and Lubricant Uses
- Opaque rigid PVC. Adds external lubrication and auxiliary heat stability to profiles, pipe, fittings and sheet that are not transparent.
- Cable and molded goods. Used in plasticized cable compounds and molded parts as part of the stabilizer and lubricant package.
- Blended stabilizer systems. Combined with other stabilizers and lubricants; the loading follows the resin, filler and process rather than a fixed number.
PVC lubricant packages also use plain fatty acids and other metal soaps; UATChem supplies stearic acid for the same formulations.
Typical Specifications
Industrial grades differ in fineness, free fatty acid and lead content, reported on the COA for each lot; the table below identifies the material.

Packaging, Restrictions and Ordering
- Packed in 25 kg woven bags and 500 kg FIBC bulk bags, palletized; bags stay sealed, dry and clearly labeled in a controlled area, with dust extraction during weighing and no mixing with other goods.
- Lead distearate is a toxic lead compound and an SVHC substance. Lead additives are restricted or banned in toys, food contact, drinking water and many electrical goods under RoHS and similar rules, so the material is sold only for permitted industrial PVC and never for lead free articles; transport classification follows the SDS, and every lot carries COA and SDS.
- For a quote, UATChem needs the quantity, packing and destination port so the applicable market restrictions can be checked.
FAQ
Q: Is lead distearate the same as dibasic lead stearate?
A: No. It is the neutral lead salt of stearic acid; dibasic lead stearate adds basic lead oxide and is a different grade.
Q: Can lead distearate be used alone as a PVC heat stabilizer?
A: Usually not. It mainly lubricates and assists stabilization, so pair it with other stabilizers to cover the full PVC process.
Q: Where can lead distearate be used?
A: Only in industrial PVC where lead is permitted; restricted or banned in toys, food contact, drinking water and electronics.
