Potassium Sulfate (SOP, CAS 7778-80-5) is a chloride-free potash that supplies both potassium and sulfate sulfur — roughly 50–52% K2O and 18% sulfur at 99.0% assay. Tobacco, grapes, berries, citrus, potatoes and greenhouse crops take their potassium without leaf burn or added soil salinity because no chloride rides along. About Potassium Sulfate
Potassium sulfate is the dipotassium salt of sulfuric acid (K2SO4), made commercially by the Mannheim process or recovered from natural brines and polyhalite ore. It arrives as white crystals, powder or granules, dissolves near-neutral and stays only mildly hygroscopic. The point of SOP over cheaper muriate of potash is the chloride: sensitive crops keep clean leaves, saline soils stay usable, and the 18% sulfur covers a secondary nutrient most programs are short on. Particle size is set by screening, so the same product serves broadcast spreading, drip fertigation, foliar feeds and industrial blending.
Applications
- Agriculture and fertigation. Chloride-free potassium for high-value cash crops, NPK compound fertilizer, drip irrigation and foliar programs; blends naturally with Monopotassium Phosphate CAS 7778-77-0 for balanced K-P feeds.
- Industrial processes. Lowers melt viscosity in soda-lime and borosilicate glass batches; feedstock for potassium dye intermediates; weighting agent in drilling fluids; processing aid in kraft pulp bleaching.
- Food, pharma and personal care. Yeast nutrient in baking and fermentation, electrolyte in oral rehydration formulations, and mineral additive in bath salts and skin and hair care products.
