Xanthan Gum CAS 11138-66-2

Xanthan Gum (CAS 11138-66-2) is a cream to white fermentation polysaccharide powder. It dissolves in cold or hot water, builds viscosity and thins under shear, then sets when stirring stops, holding solids in suspension even in salty, hot and acidic conditions. Food grade E415 goes into sauces, drinks and dairy, while industrial grades go into drilling mud, personal care and agrochemicals. UATChem supplies food, feed and industrial material in 25 kg kraft and 1000 kg ton bags, with COA, TDS, SDS and samples on request.

What Xanthan Gum Is

Xanthan gum is an anionic polysaccharide from Xanthomonas campestris fermentation, milled to a cream to white powder. In water it makes a thick, shear thinning solution that flows under pumping and sets when the shear stops. It handles salt, heat and a wide pH, and pairs well with guar or locust bean gum to change texture. UATChem supplies food, feed and oilfield grades in several sizes and viscosity levels, with assay confirmed on each COA.

Food, Feed and Industrial Uses

  • Food and beverage. As E415 it thickens, suspends and stabilizes sauces, dressings and ketchup, fruit drinks, bakery and gluten free products, ice cream and dairy, canned foods and syrups.
  • Animal feed. It binds pelleted feed and stabilizes liquid feed and pet food so the ingredients stay evenly mixed.
  • Oilfield and drilling. It raises viscosity and carries cuttings in water based drilling, completion and fracturing fluids, often together with other water soluble thickeners such as carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC).
  • Personal care and agrochemicals. It thickens and suspends toothpaste, shampoo, body wash, creams and cleaners, and stabilizes pesticide suspension concentrates, along with coatings, ceramics, textile printing and paper.

Typical Specifications

Food, feed and oilfield grades differ in assay, particle size and viscosity, so those figures are reported on the COA for each lot; the table below covers the stable identification details. As a fermentation polymer, xanthan gum has no single molecular weight.

Parameter Typical Value

Polymer Type Anionic polysaccharide (Xanthomonas campestris fermentation)
Appearance Cream to white free-flowing powder
Solubility Soluble in cold or hot water; insoluble in alcohol
Solution Behavior High viscosity, shear thinning (pseudoplastic)
Stability Tolerates salt, heat and a wide pH
Food Additive No. E415 (food grade)
HS Code 3913.90
Grade Food (E415) / feed / industrial

Packaging, Documents and Ordering

  • Standard export packing is 25 kg kraft bags with a PE liner for container loading, or 1000 kg ton bags on pallets, matching the warehouse photos. Bags are kept sealed in a cool, dry place away from moisture and strong odors.
  • Every lot comes with a COA, TDS and SDS. Food grade E415 with FCC or pharmacopoeia supporting papers can be arranged on request.
  • Samples are available for evaluation. To quote, UATChem needs the grade, particle size or viscosity level, quantity, packing and destination port.

FAQ

Q: What is xanthan gum used for?

A: Xanthan gum thickens and stabilizes sauces, drinks and dairy as E415; industrial grades serve drilling mud and personal care.

Q: Is xanthan gum food grade?

A: Yes, UATChem supplies food grade xanthan gum listed as E415 for sauces, beverages and dairy, with the COA and food documents.

Q: Which mesh or viscosity grade should I use?

A: Particle size and viscosity vary by use, from fine to standard grades; UATChem matches the grade and confirms it on the COA.

Q: How is xanthan gum packed?

A: Xanthan gum is packed in 25 kg kraft bags with a PE liner and in 1000 kg ton bags, kept sealed and dry as shown in the photos.
