Benzylarsonic Acid CAS 618-45-1

Benzylarsonic Acid (BAA, CAS 618-45-1) is an organoarsenic collector for froth flotation that binds to tin, tungsten and rare earth oxide minerals while leaving siliceous gangue behind. UATChem supplies 98% min (titration) material as a white crystalline powder in 25 kg sealed fibre drums or 50 kg steel drums, with COA, TDS, SDS and hazardous goods declarations for export.

Product Description

Benzylarsonic Acid is an organoarsenic collector with the molecular formula C7H9AsO3 and molecular weight 216.07, also known as phenylmethanearsonic acid or benzylarsenic acid. The arsonic acid group binds to oxide and salt-type mineral surfaces, giving selectivity against siliceous gangue. The powder is almost odourless, chemically stable and non-deliquescent, soluble in hot water or alkaline solution and sparingly soluble in cold water.

Applications

Typical dosage runs 100 to 300 g/t, conditioned in a pH 4 to 9 circuit, often with sodium carbonate and a frother.

  • Cassiterite (tin ore). BAA adsorbs on cassiterite surfaces that fatty-acid collectors miss, producing cleaner tin concentrate in slime and fine-grained circuits.
  • Wolframite (tungsten ore). Selective collection of wolframite in mildly acidic to alkaline circuits; tungsten grade and recovery climb together when the reagent is conditioned properly.
  • Tantalum-niobium ores. Collects tantalum and niobium oxide minerals while quartz and siliceous gangue stay in the tailings.
  • Rare earth oxide ores. Used alongside other oxide collectors to recover rare earth oxide minerals that respond poorly to fatty acids alone.
  • Ilmenite and selected metal oxides. Extended use on oxide ores where the arsonic head group forms a stable bond with the mineral surface.

The Arsenic Question

BAA contains arsenic by design, which shapes storage, transport and waste handling. Export moves as regulated hazardous goods in sealed fibre or steel drums; tailings and wastewater get the same attention as any arsenic-bearing reagent. Hydroxamic acid collectors have taken share in some circuits because they cut arsenic load and reagent cost; on tin and tungsten oxides, BAA stays the more selective choice in most operations.

Storage, Handling and Packaging

  • Arsenic-containing: store sealed, dry and ventilated, away from food, feed, water sources and incompatible materials.
  • Use full PPE, dust controls and applicable spill and disposal procedures when handling.
  • Packaging: 25 kg sealed fibre drums or 50 kg steel drums, palletised for export.
  • COA, TDS, SDS and transport declarations come with the offer; quotes within one working day.

FAQ

Q: Which ores does benzylarsonic acid collect?

A: Collects cassiterite, wolframite, tantalum-niobium and rare earth minerals.

Q: What dosage is typical in flotation?

A: Dosage runs 100-300 g/t of ore, typically in a pH 4-9 circuit with sodium carbonate.

Q: Is benzylarsonic acid hazardous to ship?

A: Yes, it contains arsenic, so export requires hazardous goods declaration and packing.

Q: What is the minimum assay of BAA?

A: 98.0% by titration, melting point 168-172 C, water insolubles under 0.3%.

Q: Why do some mills replace BAA?

A: Hydroxamic acids cut arsenic and cost; BAA stays strong on tin and tungsten.
