What Calcium Chloride Dihydrate Is

Calcium chloride dihydrate is a white deliquescent solid supplied in flakes, pellets, granules or powder. Very soluble in water, it releases heat on dissolving and pulls moisture from air, so packs must stay sealed and dry. It is the common form for deicing, dust control and brine work; anhydrous calcium chloride suits drying and dry blends. Deicing, Industrial and Food Uses

• Deicing and dust control. Applied to roads, parking areas, walkways and freight yards for ice and snow melting, and to unpaved roads, mine haul roads and stockpiles for dust laying and surface stabilization.
• Oilfield and construction. Used in drilling, completion and workover brines and well servicing, and as an accelerating and cold weather admixture in concrete and mortar.
• Drying, brine and process work. Serves as a desiccant for gases and hydrocarbons, a refrigeration brine, and in pigment, paper and water treatment processes.
• Food, feed and agriculture. Food grade E509 / INS 509 is used as a tofu coagulant and a firming agent for canned vegetables, plus cheese, brewing and electrolyte drinks, with feed grade calcium on request.
