Cellulase Enzyme CAS 9012-54-8

Cellulase (CAS 9012-54-8) is a natural enzyme complex fermented from Trichoderma reesei, sold as a light brown powder or light amber liquid. It breaks down the cellulose in cotton and plant material, so it smooths fabric, washes denim, aids feed digestion and clarifies juice. We stock acid and neutral grades in powder and liquid at 10,000 to 100,000 U/g. Tell us the process and target activity, and we will match the formulation.

What Cellulase Is

Cellulase is a group of natural proteins that digest cellulose, the structural fibre in cotton, wood and plant cell walls. It is grown by fermentation from the fungus Trichoderma reesei, then concentrated and standardized to a measured activity. Unlike chemical auxiliaries, it works in mild conditions at low dosage, is biodegradable, and is not consumed in the reaction. It is sold either as a stable powder or as a ready-to-pour liquid.

Acid or Neutral, Powder or Liquid?

Two choices decide the grade. Acid cellulase, working around pH 4.5 to 5.5, acts fast and is the usual pick for denim bio-stoning and feed. Neutral cellulase, pH 5.5 to 7.0, works more gently and is preferred for cotton bio-polishing because it removes fuzz with less strength loss. Powder keeps longer and ships and stores easily; liquid is dust-free and pours straight into automated dosing. Tell us the fabric or feedstock and the equipment you run, and we will suggest the combination.

Where It Is Used

  • Textile finishing. The largest use. It trims surface fuzz from cotton, linen and viscose for a smooth, bright finish, and replaces pumice stones in denim washing, with less damage to fabric and machines.
  • Animal feed. Added to poultry, swine and aquafeed to open up plant cell walls, release trapped starch and protein, and cut the viscosity that slows digestion.
  • Food and beverage. Clarifies fruit juice, beer and wine, raises juice yield at pressing, and supports plant protein extraction.
  • Pulp, paper and biomass. Improves pulp drainage and refining, and turns straw, bagasse and wood residues into fermentable sugars for bioethanol.

Storage, Handling and Ordering

  • Cellulase is a living protein and loses activity in heat and sunlight. Keep powder sealed at 2 to 8 °C for long storage or below 25 °C for short-term use, refrigerate liquid and do not freeze it; activity stays above 90% for 12 months under these conditions.
  • Classified Non-DG for normal transport. Enzyme dust can irritate the airways and trigger allergies, so wear a mask, goggles and gloves and avoid raising dust.
  • Packed in 1 kg foil bags for trials, 25 kg fiber drums for production and 200 kg IBC totes for liquid, with custom activity and pH grades on request. COA, TDS and SDS come with every order, and quotes go out within one working day.

FAQ

Q: Acid or neutral cellulase?

A: Acid works best for denim bio-stoning; neutral gives gentler cotton bio-polishing.

Q: How is enzyme activity measured?

A: By CMCase at pH 4.8, 50 C; one unit releases 1 micromole of reducing sugar per minute.

Q: Can it be blended with other feed enzymes?

A: Yes, with xylanase, phytase and amylase; keep away from oxidizers and high-pH ingredients.
