Rubber Accelerator TBBS (NS) CAS 95-31-8
Rubber Accelerator TBBS, also called NS (CAS 95-31-8), is a delayed-action sulfenamide accelerator sold as a light yellow to off-white powder or granules. It stays quiet during mixing and extrusion so rubber does not vulcanize too early, then cures quickly and evenly in the press, which makes it the leading accelerator for tires and heavy industrial goods. It works in NR, SBR, BR, IR and NBR with high modulus and little bloom. We supply 98% grade in 25 kg bags and drums. Let us know the rubber type and sulfur loading, and we will suggest the grade and dosage.

What TBBS Does in Rubber
Raw rubber is soft and weak on its own. Mixed with sulfur it crosslinks into strong, elastic vulcanized rubber, and an accelerator makes that reaction happen at the right time and temperature. TBBS is a primary sulfenamide accelerator, meaning it is usually the main accelerator in the recipe rather than a small booster, and it is used together with sulfur, zinc oxide and stearic acid.
Slow to Start, Fast to Cure
That delayed-action behavior is the whole reason TBBS dominates tire compounds. During mixing, extrusion and calendering it stays relatively inactive, giving a wide safety window so the stock does not scorch, or cure too early and scrap the batch. Once the rubber reaches curing temperature in the mold, TBBS becomes very active and crosslinks it fast with a broad, flat cure plateau. The result is safer processing, shorter press cycles and cured parts with high modulus, good heat aging and very little surface bloom.
Where It Is Used
- Tires. Treads, sidewalls and carcass plies in passenger and truck tires, its single largest application.
- Industrial rubber. Conveyor belts, V-belts, hoses, gaskets, seals, anti-vibration mounts and roll coverings, both molded and extruded.
- General compounding. NR, SBR, BR, IR and NBR blends; it can run alone as the main accelerator or with a small amount of DPG or thiuram to speed up thick parts.

Packaging, Storage and Ordering
- Packed in 25 kg PE-lined kraft bags or fiber drums, with bulk bags available; keep sealed below 30 °C in a dry, ventilated store, away from heat, acids and oxidizers, and rotate stock first in, first out.
- The powder is non-hazardous for normal ocean and land transport. Dust can irritate airways and skin, so wear a mask, goggles and gloves and keep the working area ventilated.
- COA, TDS and SDS come with every order, samples are available, and quotes go out within one working day. It is used in the same cure package as Stearic Acid CAS 57-11-4 and pairs with Antioxidant SP CAS 61788-44-1 for heat-resistant light goods.
FAQ
Q: Is TBBS a fast or delayed accelerator?
A: Delayed in mixing for scorch safety, then fast and even at cure with a flat plateau.
Q: Which rubbers does it work in?
A: NR, SBR, BR, IR and NBR blends; it is the main accelerator for tires and heavy goods.
Q: Can it be made to cure faster?
A: Yes, a small DPG or thiuram booster speeds cure for thick parts or low-temperature work.
