Diisoamyl Sulfide CAS 544-02-5
Diisoamyl Sulfide (DIAS, CAS 544-02-5) is a colourless to light-yellow liquid with a typical sulfide odour. It is a selective extraction reagent for palladium and gold in metal refining, and is also used as a synthesis intermediate and in savoury flavour chemistry. UATChem supplies 98.0% min grade (GC) in 180 kg steel drums and 1000 L IBC totes, with COA, TDS and SDS on every order.

Product Overview
DIAS is a branched sulfur-containing liquid used mainly in precious-metal refining. Diluted with kerosene, it picks palladium and gold out of acid leach solutions, leaving base metals and platinum behind, so it is a standard tool for separating and recovering these metals. The same material serves as a sulfur source in organic synthesis and, at trace levels, gives roasted, meaty and onion-like notes in processed flavours.
Applications
- Palladium and gold extraction. The main use is selective recovery of Pd and Au from leach liquors in PGM refining and precious-metal recycling.
- Synthesis intermediate. A convenient sulfur source for making sulfur-containing compounds and fine chemicals.
- Flavour chemistry. Adds roasted, meaty and onion-like character to savoury flavour systems at trace levels.

FAQ
Q: What is diisoamyl sulfide used for?
A: Extracting palladium and gold from leach solutions, plus synthesis and savoury flavour use.
Q: How is DIAS handled and stored?
A: Sealed, cool and away from ignition sources; it is a combustible liquid, not a powder.
Q: What purity do you supply?
A: 98.0% min by GC, in 180 kg steel drums or 1000 L IBC totes.
Q: Does it have a strong smell?
A: Yes, a typical sulfide odour similar to onion or roast; keep areas ventilated.
