N-Methyldiethanolamine CAS 105-59-9

N-Methyldiethanolamine, or MDEA (CAS 105-59-9), is a tertiary alkanolamine supplied as a colorless to pale yellow, water miscible liquid. It is the standard amine for selective hydrogen sulfide removal and carbon dioxide capture in natural gas, refinery and biogas treating, with low regeneration energy. It also serves as a polyurethane foam catalyst and a coating neutralizer. UATChem supplies gas treating and industrial grade in 200 kg drums, 1000 kg IBCs and by ISO tank, with COA, TDS, SDS and samples on request.

What N-Methyldiethanolamine Is

N-Methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) is a tertiary alkanolamine, a colorless to pale yellow liquid miscible with water. In gas treating it reacts preferentially with hydrogen sulfide and captures carbon dioxide, with low reaction heat and low solvent loss. It is used neat or as a water blend, sometimes with piperazine to speed carbon dioxide removal. UATChem supplies gas treating and industrial grades, with assay, water and color on the COA.

Gas Treating, Polyurethane and Coating Uses

  • Natural gas and biogas treating. The standard amine for selective hydrogen sulfide removal and carbon dioxide capture in natural gas, associated gas, refinery gas, syngas and biogas upgrading, valued for low regeneration energy and stable operation.
  • Formulated amine solvents. Used as a water based amine solution and blended with piperazine as activated MDEA for faster carbon dioxide removal in gas sweetening units.
  • Polyurethane. A tertiary amine co-catalyst for polyurethane foam; the hydroxyl groups bond into the polymer, supporting low fogging formulations.
  • Coatings and synthesis. A neutralizing amine in water based coatings that stabilizes pH and aids pigment dispersion, and an intermediate for other amine derivatives.

Packaging, Documents and Ordering

  • Packed in 200 kg plastic or steel drums on pallets and 1000 kg IBCs, matching the warehouse photos, with large export volumes shipped in 18000 L ISO tanks. Keep containers sealed in a cool, dry place away from acids and oxidizers.
  • COA, TDS and SDS are provided for every lot, with assay, water content and color on the COA. Gas treating grade for amine sweetening units and industrial grade for catalyst and coating use are both available.
  • Samples can be arranged for evaluation. For a quote, UATChem needs the grade, quantity, packing (drum, IBC or ISO tank) and destination port.

FAQ

Q: What is MDEA used for?

A: MDEA removes hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide from gas and biogas and serves as a PU foam catalyst and coating neutralizer.

Q: What packaging is available for MDEA?

A: UATChem supplies MDEA in 200 kg drums and 1000 kg IBCs, with larger volumes shipped by ISO tank as shown in the photos.

Q: How does MDEA differ from MEA and DEA?

A: MDEA is a tertiary amine that removes H2S more selectively with less regeneration energy and solvent loss than MEA or DEA.

Q: Can I get an MDEA sample?

A: Yes, UATChem can provide a sample of gas treating or industrial grade MDEA for evaluation, with the COA, TDS and SDS.
