Diphenylguanidine (DPG) CAS 102-06-7
Diphenylguanidine, better known as DPG or Accelerator D (CAS 102-06-7), is a medium-speed, basic guanidine accelerator supplied as white to gray-white powder, oiled powder or low-dust granules. DPG is most often used as a secondary accelerator that activates thiazole and sulfenamide systems such as MBTS and TBBS, raising cure rate and crosslink density, and it plays a specific role in silica tire tread as an activator for the silane coupling reaction. UATChem supplies DPG for tires, industrial rubber, soles and thick sections in powder, oiled and granule forms. Standard packs are 20 or 25 kg bags and 1000 kg FIBC lots; send the form, quantity and destination for a quote with COA and SDS.

What Diphenylguanidine (DPG) Is
Diphenylguanidine is a guanidine derivative, a white to gray-white solid delivered as powder, oiled powder or low-dust granules. As a medium-speed basic accelerator it is rarely run alone; most rubber compounds use it as a secondary accelerator on top of a thiazole or sulfenamide primary, where it shortens cure time, raises crosslink density and balances scorch safety. It dissolves in alcohol, acetone and aromatic solvents and is only slightly soluble in water. UATChem supplies standard DPG in powder, dust-suppressed oiled powder and granule forms matched to internal mixing, continuous cure and automated dosing lines.
Rubber Curing and Silica Tire Uses
- Secondary accelerator. Combined with thiazole and sulfenamide primaries such as MBTS (DM), CBS and TBBS (NS) to speed cure and raise crosslink density in tires, sheets, soles, sponge, thick sections and hard rubber.
- Silica tire tread. In silica-filled tread it activates the silane coupling reaction and neutralizes acidic silanol groups on the filler surface, improving silica dispersion and the filler to rubber bond in low rolling resistance compounds.
- Other uses. Serves as a processing aid in some polychloroprene compounds, a curing or crosslinking aid in resins, and a starting material for a small number of dye and fine chemical routes.
Typical Specifications
Powder, oiled powder and granule differ in dust and handling; cure, ash, moisture and sieve values are reported on the COA for each lot, while the physical constants below identify the material.

Packaging, Documents and Ordering
- Packed in 20 or 25 kg paper or woven bags with PE liner and in 1000 kg FIBC bags; granule and oiled powder reduce airborne dust, and material is kept sealed, dry and away from heat, shipping as ordinary cargo.
- The dust irritates the skin, eyes and respiratory tract and may cause skin sensitization, so gloves, goggles, a dust mask and ventilation are used and release to waterways is avoided. Every lot carries a COA with initial melting point, ash, moisture, sieve residue and form, together with TDS and SDS, and samples are supported.
- DPG is normally dosed as a secondary accelerator alongside MBTS CAS 120-78-5 or TBBS CAS 95-31-8, with TBBS common in silica tread. For a quote, send the form (powder, oiled or granule), quantity, packing and destination port.
FAQ
Q: What is DPG rubber accelerator used for?
A: DPG is a medium-speed basic accelerator, used as a secondary booster with MBTS, CBS or TBBS to speed cure and crosslinking.
Q: Why is DPG used in silica tire tread?
A: In silica tread it activates the silane reaction and neutralizes silanol groups, improving dispersion and rubber bonding.
Q: Powder, oiled powder or granule DPG, which form to choose?
A: Powder suits general mixing, while oiled powder and low-dust granule cut airborne dust on automated weighing and dosing lines.
